About the Canadian Xiangqi Federation

The World Xiangqi Federation was established in 1993. At that time, six cities in Canada participated in the name of three associate members: Canada West (Vancouver), Canada Central (Edmonton, Calgary), and Canada East (Toronto, Montreal).

Until 2008, the Canadian Xiangqi Federation (CXF) was finally established. At that time, the member cities were Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal. In 2009, the CXF officially joined the World Xiangqi Federation as a member of the only Xiangqi organization approved by Canada. Later, the Richmond Chinese Chess Club, the Quebec Xiangqi Association, and the Markham Xiangqi Association joined the CXF as members.

In 2018 and 2019, the CXF hosted the World Xiangqi Team Open and World Xiangqi Championship in Toronto and Vancouver, respectively, being the first country twice in a row to bring the World Xiangqi Team Open and World Xiangqi Championship out of Asia to the Americas!

 Achievements:

• In 1993, Gary Arvin represented Canada Central and won the World Xiangqi Championship non-Chinese Federation Master title
• In 1995, Yuying Huang International Women's Grandmaster won the Women's Champion of the World Xiangqi Championship on behalf of the Canada East Team
• In 1997, the You Phuc Nguyen Federation Master represented the Canada East team and won 3^rd place for the non-Chinese group in the World Xiangqi Championship
• In 1997, the Canada Central team won 7^th place in the World Xiangqi Championship
• In 1999, Bill Brydon represented the Canada East team and won 5^th place for non-Chinese and Vietnamese group in the World Xiangqi Championship
• In 2003, Ximing Zheng International Grandmaster won 10^th place in the World Xiangqi Championship on behalf of the Canada East team
• In 2016, Canada won 6^th place in the World Xiangqi Team Open
• In 2018, Canada won the championship in the World Xiangqi Team Open
• In 2019, Hongsheng Chen International Grandmaster represented Canada and won the 3^rd place in the World Xiangqi Championship
• In 2019, Canada won 5^th place of Team in the World Xiangqi Championship
